NEW RIVER PEOPLE IN BUSINESS

The Board of Directors of the National Bank of Blacksburg recently appointed BUFORD STEELE of Newport and Paul B. "Bev" Collins of Pembroke to its Giles County Advisory Board.

Steele also serves on the boards of the Newport Ruritan Club, Giles County Social Services, the Newport Village Council and the Newport Rescue Squad.

Collins is president of Patrick Enterprises and has served on the Pembroke Town Council and the administrative board of the First United Methodist Church.

The New River Valley Economic Development Alliance appointed DAVID B. MARTIN its new marketing associate. He will assist the alliance in its goal of bringing new industry to the New River Valley. Martin's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in political science from Virginia Tech, a paralegal certificate from the National Center for Paralegal Training in Atlanta and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Boise State University.

Draper Aden Associates recently appointed RUSSELL SHOCK director of information systems at its Blacksburg office. Shock is a Virginia Tech engineering science and mechanics graduate and has worked for four years as a technical systems analyst for VTLS Inc. He will guide the development and implementation of firmwide systems.

BILL LINDBLOM has been named director of engineering at Force Incorporated in Christiansburg. He is responsible for product development and support. Lindblom previously worked for P.C.O and Meret Optical Communications and has experience in high performance video, audio and data distribution systems using fiber optic technology for industrial and broadcast markets.

SCOTT BUMGARDNER, a branch office specialist at the Radford office of Edward D. Jones & Company, has entered the firm's investment representative training program. Bumgardner, of Huntington, W. Va., graduated from Marshall University with a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing.

DAVE BAUGH of Blacksburg has joined MiCara Productions as the company's photo services manager. His photographic experience includes work for newspapers, journals, industry and the military.

SCOTT SLAYMAN is a new member of the technical staff of H & W Computer Systems. He will specialize in computer system repairs an software troubleshooting.

LUBNA R. IJAZ of Shawsville, chief executive officer of International Solar Industries, has been elected to membership in the International Platform Association. This organization of lecturers provides an open marketplace for recognized speakers from all political persuasions.

LINDA ROSENBERG DEEMER, an associate broker with Raines Real Estate Inc. Better Homes and Gardens in Blacksburg recently received a residential marketing master designation from the Better Homes and Gardens franchise. Deemer completed six courses in marketing, negotiations and sales to qualify for the designation.

|In Health Care| Dr. RICHARD JACKSONis the new director of occupational health services at Radford Community Hospital. The service assists employers in providing cost-effective, quality health services to employees including education and injury-prevention programs.

Jackson, who has a private neurology practice in Radford, is also medical director of the hospital's Center for Rehabilitative Medicine and the EEG laboratory.

He studied medicine at Albany Medical College in Albany, N.Y., interned at the University of Southern California and returned to Albany Medical College to complete his residency.

Dr. MARIA ENCARNACION, a family practitioner with offices in Pulaski and Fort Chiswell, recently passed the American Association of Medical Review Officers' certification exam, a review of current drug and alcohol regulations.

Encarnacion will work with Pulaski Community and Montgomery Regional hospitals' occupational health and safety services reviewing the results of employee drug screenings for their contracted companies.

Her background in diagnosing and treating drug abuse disorders includes experience in medical consultanting for several drug detoxification centers.

Pulaski Healthcare Center has named BUTCH WADDELL, an employee in the housekeeping department, its employee of the year. Waddell, who has been with the organization 2 years, received a plaque and a $500 check.

Dr. JOHN GREGG of Blacksburg attended the mid-winter meeting of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Orlando, Fla. He was a featured speaker at a symposium on nerve injuries.
