T. Rodman Layman, chairman of the Citizens Courthouses Committee, said photographs and information from citizens can be used as part of a ``People'' display and various items of historical interest can be used in a heritage display.
Photographs and display items will be rotated periodically, he said. Items being held for later use will be stored in a vault.
The Courthouses Committee was formed less than a month after the December 1989 fire which destroyed much of the interior of the Old Courthouse. It has been working toward restoring the Old Courthouse and expanding the adjacent brick courthouse.
The Exhibits Committee, headed by Elrica Graham, spun off from it.
``Dedication of the restored Old Courthouse on Dec. 29, 1992, and the dedication of heritage exhibits on Nov. 26, 1994, were milestone events for the citizens of Pulaski County,'' Layman said. ``Opportunities abound for Pulaski County citizens to continue to be part of preserving the rich legacy of Pulaski County.''
The Exhibits Committee is working on updating, expanding and sharing exhibits in cooperation with the county Board of Supervisors, administrative staff and Courthouses Committee, he said.
Besides providing photos or other display items, citizens can make gifts or loans of materials for the Pulaski County History Library, to be housed in the Pulaski County Public Library at 60 W. Third St., and help provide funding for exhibits.
Gifts in honor of or in memory of someone will be acknowledged by letter and will be listed in an Acknowledgement Book on display in the main courthouse corridor. Gifts of money can be made payable to the County of Pulaski and sent to the County Administrator's Office, Suite 1, 143 Third St. N.W., Pulaski Va. 24301.
Materials can be turned in to the county administrator's office or by contacting any Exhibits Committee member: Elrica Graham (980-4640), Lloyd Mathews (980-7499), Virginia Johnston (980-5191), Frances Farmer or Evelyn Alexander (674-5853) or Zola Lancaster (639-1528).
Courthouse snow scene prints are on sale at the Fine Arts Center of the New River Valley at 21 W. Main St. Other prints are available at the Casimir Co. at 69 W. Main St. or the county treasurer's office.
Courthouse tours are planned starting in March, and group tours can be scheduled. Volunteers to serve as tour guides should call Graham (980-4640) or Terri Gregory (980-7797). An orientation will be provided for guides.
