FIRST UNION BANK BRANCH ROBBED

A Roanoke branch of First Union Bank was robbed at gunpoint Friday evening.

The robber walked in through a rear door of the bank at 301 McClanahan St. just before 6 p.m., according to a news release issued by Roanoke police.

The person showed a handgun and demanded money. Police would not say whether the robber was a man or a woman.

The robber fled on foot with a small amount of money. No one was injured.
