Nine World Karting Association-sanctioned events, including a divisional and national race, have been scheduled for New River Valley Speedway in Radford.

There will be 12 divisions of competition with the youngest being the Junior Sportsman for 8- to 10-year-olds, promoter Ronnie Snoddy said.

An open practice will be held March 26, and the first race date is April 2. All events, with the exception of the national meet on Aug.26, will be on Sunday afternoons. Practice sessions are set to begin at noon with racing to follow.

Burris will be the track tire for all events.

In addition to the national race, WKA regional action is scheduled May 28. Regular shows are set for April 23, June 4, June 18, July 23, Aug.6 and Aug.20.

Veteran Bill Pearce will be promoting the kart races on the new track constructed during the winter inside the .416-mile stock car racing oval.
