LAUREL PARK EARNS SHOT AT MARTINSVILLE

Laurel Park held Fieldale-Collinsville to 13 points in the second half as the Lancers rolled into the Piedmont District Tournament final with a 58-42 victory Friday night at Bassett High School.

Laurel Park will face regular-season champion Martinsville at 7:30 p.m. today at Bassett. The Lancers earned a Region III tournament berth, despite the outcome of the Piedmont final.

Darrell Wilson scored a game-high 14 points for Laurel Park, which trailed 29-28 at halftime. Warrick Scott tossed in 13 points and Rashad Wall added 11 for the Lancers (17-5).

Brad Harmon was the high scorer for the Cavaliers (16-7), with 11 points, and Delvin Joyce and Brian Alley each added 10.

Pioneer

Parry McCluer 57, Bath County 51: In Clifton Forge, the Fighting Blues scored the final six points to down the Chargers in a semifinal at Dabney Lancaster Community College.

With the score tied at 51 with 1 minute, 22 seconds remaining, Parry McCluer held the ball, causing Bath to foul. The Fighting Blues sank four free throws and Brandon Garrett threw down a dunk as the buzzer sounded for the final score.

Mike McElroy led Parry McCluer (17-6) with a game-high 18 points. David Coleman scored 10 points for the Blues, and Garrett finished with nine.

Jon Rodgers was the leading scorer for Bath County (15-6), pouring in 12 points and Chris Phillips tossed in 11. David Buzzard added 10 for the Chargers.

Parry McCluer will face the winner of the Covington-Glenvar game in the district final. Bath County still advances to the Region C tournament as the regular-season Pioneer District champion.

Hogoheegee

George Wythe 59, PH-Glade Spring 49: Aaron Andrews scored 19 points, and the Maroons pulled away from the Rebels to win the title and clinch a berth in the Region C tournament.

PH-Glade Spring played a delay game, looking for back-door cuts, but George Wythe (19-5) managed to thwart that strategy.

The Rebels were led by Eric Reynolds with 18 points and Chris Castle with 15.

Jon Ervin added 17 points for the Maroons.

Mountain Empire

Narrows 77, Rocky Gap 73: In Wytheville, the Green Wave battled back from a four-point halftime deficit to defeat the Eagles in the championship game.

Brian Pruitt led Narrows with 27 points. The Green Wave got 14 from Scott Vaught, 13 from Patrick Bailey and 12 from Norman Perkins.

Kelly DeHart had 18 points for Auburn (13-9). Tracy Bradshaw added 15, Nathan Blessing 13 and Eric Faulkner 11. Kevin DeHart hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the final margin from seven points to four.

Narrows opened its lead in the third quarter, with all five starters contributing.

The Green Wave (14-9) advances to the Region C tournament against Lebanon, and regular-season champion Grayson County also has a berth.

VIC

Carlisle 66, Miller School 63: In Lynchburg, Rod Mitchell scored on an offensive rebound with about four minutes left to give the Chiefs the lead for good as Carlisle advanced to the championship game tonight against Eastern Mennonite.

Mitchell scored six of his 17 points in the last four minutes, and Joseph McClinton scored six of his 15 in the final four minutes to lift Carlisle (21-2).

Bryant Redd added 12 points for the Chiefs.

ODACS

Gateway Christian 70, Evangel Christian 54: In Blacksburg, Ryan Gordon scored 31 points and Aaron Meadows added 16, and the Crusaders outscored the visitors 23-13 in the fourth quarter to advance to the final of the Old Dominion Association of Christian Schools tournament.

Allan Surface scored 11 for Gateway Christian, which will play Mount Carmel at 4:30 p.m. today. Gordon pulled down 12 rebounds and Meadows grabbed 11.

Louis Dinelli scored 23 and Dan Barb had 15 to lead Evangel Christian.
