BYRD NIPS NORTHSIDE FOR REGION III TITLE

William Byrd edged Northside for the Region III wrestling championship at Rustburg High School on Saturday.

The Terriers compiled 162.5 points, which beat Northside's 150 points. Brookville finished third and Lord Botetourt came in fourth.

David Anderson was the Terriers' only individual champion, capturing the 125-pound class by decisioning Christopher Blair of Liberty. The Terriers' Corey Walker and Timothy Boothe both lost in the championship round. Walker was pinned by Scott Judy of Appomattox, and Boothe lost a 3-1 decision to John Miller of Bassett.

Brad Hungate led the Northside charge by winning a 20-6 decision over Eric McMillan of Salem. The Vikings' Leland Keeling and Chip Nininger both won individual championships, with Keeling capturing the 130-pound title after decisioning Timothy Greenway of Jefferson Forest and Nininger winning a 12-7 decision over James Campbell of Rockbridge County to win the 189-pound championship.

Drew Givens of Salem won the 112-pound class, and Lord Botetourt took home two individual championships. Noah Poissant and Barry Williams won the 152-, and 160-pound classes, respectively.
