Ronnie Thomas of Christiansburg practiced at the track, as did Phil Warren of Langley Raceway, Stacy Compton of South Boston Speedway and Winston Racing Series Mid-Atlantic champion Barry Beggarly. Others who tested include Jason Jarrett and Dale Earnhardt Jr., sons of Winston Cup drivers Dale Jarrett and Dale Earnhardt, respectively.
The March 19 race will begin at 12:30 p.m. with two 50-lap qualifying races, followed by the 200-lap feature event. Tickets are $15.
nSteve Taylor and Lori Taylor, both of Blacksburg, finished second and third in the men's and women's divisions of the Anheuser-Busch Colonial Half Marathon in Williamsburg on Sunday.
Steve Taylor finished the 13-mile race in 1 hour, 5 minutes, 59 seconds, 31 seconds behind Paul Mbugua of New Platz, N.Y. Jorge Pardo, also of Blacksburg, finished fourth in 1:08:59.
Lori Taylor ran the race in 1:21:20. Bonnie Barnard-Lopez of Bethesda, Md., won the women's division in 1:16:47.
The VMI track team finished third out of seven teams at this past weekend's Southern Conference Indoor Track Championships at Johnson City, Tenn. The Keydets (89 points) finished 47 points behind first-place Appalachian State and three behind East Tennessee State.
The Keydets were paced by three first-place individual finishes. Damon Richardson won the long jump with a leap of 24 feet, 11/4 inches. Phil Alicea won the pole vault at 15-7, and Ryan Earley won the shot put at 52-83/4.
