BUCHY GOING TO AIR FORCE

Philip Buchy, a two-time all-state offensive lineman at Roanoke Catholic High School, has accepted an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

Buchy will spend his first year at Air Force Academy Prep, said Celtics coach John Cook.

Buchy, a 6-foot-4, 220-pounder, played center and offensive tackle for Roanoke Catholic and was the first player to win five football letters at the school. He helped lead the Celtics to the 1994 Virginia Independent Schools Division II championship.

Boston College was one of the schools that expressed interest in Buchy, whose marketability was enhanced by his ability to snap for punts and placements. VMI and Villanova also expressed interest.
