BEATING VICTIM DIES; MAN CHARGED IN SLAYING

A Pulaski man has been charged with what would be the town's first murder since 1992 after another man died this weekend from injuries sustained in a January fight.

Terry Kenneth Morris, 48, died Saturday in Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he was being treated for head wounds, Pulaski Police Commander Ed Hogston said Wednesday.

Monday, town police upgraded a malicious wounding charge against Enoch S. Dunagan of Sutphin Circle to murder, Hogston said. Dunagan was served with the new charge in the Pulaski County Jail, where he is serving a sentence for violating probation, Hogston said.

Police said Morris had been staying with Dunagan in January when the altercation happened. Hogston said police believe Dunagan went to a neighbor's house to find Morris after Dunagan's wife alleged that Morris had assaulted two of the Dunagans' children. While the confrontation did not involve weapons, Hogston said the fight was "very violent."
