The Hokies (2-0) got six hits in the decisive inning, including a two-run home run by shortstop Kevin Kurilla. Tech right fielder Matt Reynolds, a former William Byrd athlete, had a double, triple and home run and drove in three runs. Catcher Josh Herman of Vinton homered for the Hokies.
Freshman pitcher Denny Wagner of Castlewood earned the victory in his first start. He went five innings, striking out seven and walking just one.

Andre Jenkins had four goals and three assists to lead Washington and Lee to a 19-3 men's lacrosse victory in Lexington over Mary Washington. Scott Mackley added four goals for the Generals (1-0) who scored the first nine goals and peppered the Mary Washington goal with 56 shots.
The Roanoke men routed Virginia Tech's club team 22-4 in a lacrosse game at Roanoke. Mark Malone and Porter Smith each had four goals and assist for the Maroons. Dan Keating added three goals for Roanoke.
