CARTER, Nannie Emma Thomas, 75, of Christiansburg, died Sunday, February 26,1995, at the Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C. after a long illness. She was born May 11, 1919, in Christiansburg a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William R. Thomas. She was married to the late Leonard B. Carter Sr. She is survived by six children, Leonard B. Carter Jr., Charlotte, N.C., Shirley C. Reynolds, Roanoke, Earl T. Carter, Winston-Salem, N.C., Marshall Carter, Blacksburg, Jerry Carter, Richmond, Harold Carter, Floyd; four sisters, Mrs. Rosa Holmes and Mrs. Verna Holmes both of Christiansburg, Mrs. Catherine Brown and Ms. Geneva Calloway both of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Satu rday, March 4, Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church, Christiansburg with the Rev. Kenneth B. Wright officiating. Burial will be at the Schaeffer Memorial Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:30 until time of service at the church. ALBERT, Charlie Thomas, 82, of McCoy, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, February 28, 1995 , after a 2 1/2 year bout with cancer. He was born June 25, 1912, one of sixteen children, to the late Samuel and Sina Albert of McCoy. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy A. Albert; one grandson, David T. Albert; and one granddaughter, Cynthia Rae Perez; nine sisters, and four brothers. He was a retired Coal Miner, a member of the Carpenters and Millwrights Local #319 for 44 years, a member of Eggleston Masonic Lodge #309 for 49 years, and Community Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Treva A. Quesenberry, Pulaski, and Joy A. Nester, Radford; four sons and daughters-in-law, Carlton and Della (Dixie) Albert, Bonner Spring, Kansas, Clarence and Loretta Albert, McCoy, Troy and Shirley Albert, Radford, Garnett E. Albert, Roanoke; and a special grandson, Bernard Nester, Radford. Charlie was Papaw to sixteen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Homer Albert; and one sister, Ruby A. Smith, both of McCoy; a number of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Community Christian Church, McCoy, with Mr. Bobby E. Fuller and the Rev. Gordon Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Centennial Christian Church Cemetery, with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Eggleston Masonic Lodge #309. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Longshop-McCoy Fire and First Aid Department, Box 489, McCoy, Va. 24111, or the the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 446, Christiansburg, Va. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. Charlie was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed.

BRAY, Garnet Dean, 70, of Meadows of Dan, died Monday, February 27, 1995, at the Roanoke Memorial Rehab Center. Born in West Virginia to the late Joe and Beulah Halley, she is survived by her husband, Lavoy Bray Sr. of Meadows of Dan; three sons, Donnie Lee Bray of Virginia Beach, Lavoy Bray Jr. of Richmond, and Eugene Phillips of Alton; one daughter, Linda Phillips Thompson of Meadows of Dan; one brother, Herbert Halley of Portsmouth. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Portsmouth. COBBS, William C., 98, of Pittsylvania County, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Cobbs, Baker, W.Va.; a daughter-in-law, Alice Cline, San Diego, Calif.; brothers, Thomas S. Cobbs, Chatham, Walter H. DAVIS, Henry Frank, 71, of Rocky Mount, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995, at his home. Born August 24, 1923 he was the son of the late Zed and Morten McNeil Davis. He was employed by MW Manufacturing for forty-four years. Surviving are his wife, Gloria R. Davis, of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Twyla and Mike Brown, Wirtz; his son and daughter-in-law, Stevie and Sharon Davis, Ferrum; five grandchildren, Christopher Brown and Zachary Brown, Wirtz, Nicole Davis, Jessica Davis and Cody Davis, Ferrum; his sister, Mildred Jones, Rocky Mount; his niece, Georgia Gravely, Rocky Mount; and his nephew, David Jones, Rocky Mount. GUNTER, Josie Lillian, 83, of Troutville, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995. She was a member of the Troutville congregation of The Jehovah's Witness. She is survived by five sons, Robert L. Harris, Daniel Clyde Gunter, both of Roanoke, Thomas Jefferson Gunter, Donald W. Gunter, both of Richmond, David L. Simmons, Salem; four daughters, Geraldine Hudson, Roanoke, Gracie Jean Hogan, Alesia D. Williams, both of Fincastle, Patricia Ann Neal, Richmond; two sisters, Rose L. HALL, Ruby Parsons, 79, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995, at her home. She was born October 3, 1915 in Roanoke County a daughter of the late Benjamin Cleveland Parsons and Viola Eugenia Farmer. She retired as a dress shop manager for David's Village Shop in Arlington, was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Roanoke, and a member of the D.A.R., Falls of the Rappahannock Chapter. Mrs. Hall was the widow of Wilson Garland Hall and is survived by two daughters, Michal Cornelia Hall Justis of Fredericksburg, Garland Eugenia ``Genie"" Oehm of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Rachel Bishop of Moneta, Gladys Elliott of Roanoke; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, 1995, at 10 a. m. at Mullins & Thompson Fredericksburg Chapel with Bishop William Moore officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. HALSEY, John Crockett, 57, of Buchanan, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995. Mr. Halsey was a truck driver with C.G. Crews with over 36 years service, he was also a member of Vinton Moose Lodge. HIGGINS, Verna E., 74, of Bluefield, W.Va., Glen Wood Park Retirement Village, and formerly of Old Bramwell Rd. , died Monday, February 27, 1995, at the Glen Wood Park Retirement Village. Born on June 4, 1920, in McGrady, N.C. she was a daughter of the late Rev. Lonnie and Laura Hayes Felts. Mrs. Higgins had been a resident of Bluefield for 45 years and was a homemaker and self-employed as a seamstress making drapes and slip covers. She attended the Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors: two sons, Richard Higgins, Bluefield, W.Va., Arvil Higgins, Bluefield, W.Va.; two daughters, Mr s. Patrick (Polly) Carroll, Roanoke, Va., Mrs. Larry (Betty) Resch, Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Benjamin (Benny) Felts, McGrady, N.C.; five sisters, Virginia Chapel, N. HODGES, Emma Golden, 85, of Rocky Mount, went to her heavenly home, Tuesday, February 28, 1995. Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Hodges; and son, Denvil Hodges. Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Mrs. Helen Quinn, Rocky Mount, Ella Mae and Junior Sink, Martinsville, Shirley and Billy Tosh, Rocky Mount, Minnie Hankins and Bobby Crum, Collinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Gladys Hodges, Rocky Mount; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Belle Hall, Rocky Mount, Lorene and Lester Scott, Norfolk, Grover Hall, Rocky Mount; one sister-in-law, Eula Hodges, Rocky Mount; four special friends, Ada Greer, Betty Hood, Ray and Ruby Campbell, all of Rocky Mount. He was a life long Salem resident and was employeed as an Assistant Supervisor at Salem Ready Mix Concrete. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Wilson Kirby Sr. Survivors include his wife, Terry L. Kirby; son, Thomas Allan Kirby; daughter, Lynda Mae Kirby; mother, Shirley Marie Kirby; sister, Diane Ayers, Botetourt Co.; two brothers, Ronnie P. Kirby and Albert J. Kirby both of Salem. McLAURIN, Charles Fulton, 88, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, March 1, 1995, in Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was born in Fayetteville, N.C. and moved to Lynchburg, where he worked for Neuhoff Packers as a truck driver. In 1935, he came to Salem with Neuhoff, later called Valleydale Packers, and he retired from there in 1971. He also served two years in the Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by two wives, Grace Shaver McLaurin and Ethel Martin McLaurin and a son, Charles F. McLaurin Jr. Surviving are a daughter, Paulina Shelton, Roanoke; brother, Colin McLaurin; sisters, Lois Worthen and Edna McLaurin, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren, Christopher Shelton, Greenville, S.C., Tracee Shelton, Roanoke , Brian McLaurin, Greer, S.C., Robert McLaurin and Tanya Edwards, both of Kinston, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Brendan McLaurin, Greer, S.C. and Krystal Edwards, Kinston, N.C. Also surviving are two stepchildren, Everett L. (Buddy) Martin, Danville, Betty Martin Scott, Yazoo City, Miss. Funeral services will be conducted from John M. NICHOLS, Edward R., Sr., 81, of Roanoke, died Monday, February 27, 1995, at his home. He was a member of Hollins Road Baptist Church and retired from Norfolk & Western Railway with thirty years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vilree H. Nichols. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Edward R. PRILLAMAN, Eunice Arrington, 83, of Roanoke, died Monday, February 27, 1995, in Friendship Manor Convalescent Center. She was born in Bedford Co. and was a daughter of the late Randolph T. and Mintie K. Arrington. She was the widow of Alton H. Prillaman and was a resident of the Williamson Road area for over 60 years and a charter member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Donald G. and Sara C. Prillaman, Elkhart, Ind.; grandchildren, C. Alton Prillaman and wife, Kathy, Roanoke, Raymond E. Prillaman, Elkhart, Ind., Vicki K. Prillaman, Fairfax; brother, R. Edd Arrington, Roanoke. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, at Oakey's North Chapel by the Rev. Charles R. Doyle. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. SMITH, Robert Thurman, of Blountville, Tenn., died Friday, February 24, 1995, at his home. He was retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He is survived by his wife, Luana Baker Smith, formerly of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and David Foutz, Lafayette, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Debroyse and Laura Smith, Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandsons, Tad and Timothy Foutz, and Ryan Debroyse Smith. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Leon Dutka at Blountville Funeral Home Monday, followed by entombment with military honors on Tuesday at East Lawn Cemetery, Blountville. WALKER, Lillian Mae Simmons, 71, of Christiansburg, died Monday, February 27, 1995, in a Radford hospital. Born May 12, 1909 in Carroll County, Va., the daughter of the late Wise McPeak and Victoria Turman McPeak. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Glenn McGrady, Laurel Fork, Mrs. Marie Southern, Advance, N.C., Miss Corrinne Worrell, Winston-Salem, N.C.; one son, Mr. J. P. Worrell, Browns Summitt, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Winnie Honaker, Martinsville, 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, 1995, at the Worrell Memorial Primitive Baptist Church with the Elder Carbon Vass and Elder Joe McGrady officiating. Interment will follow in the Worrell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville.
