Weddington was awarded the Planned Parenthood Federation of America's Margaret Sanger Award for her work on the Roe v. Wade case. She has also been named one of the ``Outstanding American Leaders'' by Time magazine and was selected as one of 10 ``Outstanding Women in America'' in 1979.
Weddington is now a writer, lecturer and teacher and serves as senior lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin and in the summer as distinguished lecturer at Texas Women's University.
