WPSK-FM IS A FINALIST FOR NATIONAL CRYSTAL RADIO AWARDS

EAGLE COUNTRY 107 WPSK (107.1 FM) is the only Virginia radio station to make the list of 45 finalists for the National Association of Broadcasters' Crystal Radio Awards. The awards recognize radio stations for excellence in community service. Ten Crystal winners will be announced during the NAB's annual convention in April. The station is competing with stations in Los Angeles, St. Louis and Baltimore.

Among local organizations the station has helped are Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross and the United Way. The station also mounted a number of its own fund-raising events in 1994, including a community coat drive that collected hundreds of coats for the area's needy. 633-1071.

\ Live Appearance: CD Country WRIQ (101.7 FM) and Classic Country WRAD (1460 AM) broadcast live Friday, 3-6 p.m., from the NEW RIVER VALLEY HOME SHOW at the Blacksburg Community Center, 725 Patrick Henry Drive. 639-2461.

\ The BIG SOUTH MEN'S TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP game will be televised Sunday, with or without the Radford Highlanders. Fans in the Radford-Fairlawn-Christiansburg area can see the game at 1 p.m. on ESPN2 via American Cable Entertainment on cable channel 1. American Cable Entertainment plans to permanently add ESPN2 to its cable menu this spring, and the Sunday cablecast is a chance to preview the pending service.

If Radford advances to the championship game, WPSK (107.1 FM) also will carry it on radio starting at 12:40 p.m.

``Armchair Quarterback'': Liberty University head football coach and former Cleveland Browns head coach Sam Ritigliano is the guest today, 9-10 a.m., on WFNR (710 AM). Host Levi Garrett moderates a panel of pundits that tackles listeners' questions and comments on regional collegiate and professional sports. Virginia Tech Basketball: Today, the Hokies meet the University of North Carolina-Charlotte for the last regular season game. The "Hokie Hotline" with Virginia Tech basketball coach Bill Foster airs Monday, 7-8 p.m. Virginia Tech Sports Network stations include WNRV (990 AM), WJJJ (1260 AM), WKEX (1430 AM), WRAD (1460 AM), WRIQ (101.7 FM) and WVVV (104.9 FM).

NASCAR: Today, 1 p.m., it's the Hardee's 250 Busch Grand National race from Richmond on WPSK (107.1 FM). Sunday, 1 p.m., WPSK will carry the Pontiac 400 from Richmond, if if the Radford Highlanders do not advance to the championship of the Big South Tournament. 633-1071.

Virginia Tech's student-run WUVT (90.7 FM) seeks a new logo and slogan to best represent the station's diversity. The contest winner gets to be disc jockey for a day and to see his or her creativity "plastered all over the New River Valley," a station spokeswoman said. Deadline is Wednesday.
