HARTMANN LEADS GENERALS TO WIN

Brett Hartman pitched all five innings for Washington and Lee in a 3-2 college baseball victory over West Virginia Tech on Friday. Hartman allowed only three hits and no earned runs while striking out three batters.

The game was called after five innings when snow and freezing rain intensified.

In other sports in the region:

Steve Smith, head boys' basketball coach at Oak Hill Academy in Grayson County, has been selected as head coach of the East team in the McDonald's All-America Game on April 2 in St. Louis.

Smith will be joined by Ron Mercer, who averaged 26 points and six rebounds for the Warriors this season. Mercer is a record 12th player from Oak Hill to be chosen a McDonald's All-American.

Oak Hill, which finished 33-3, is ranked eighth in the country by USA Today.

Today's practice at the Franklin County Speedway has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Practice was rescheduled for next Saturday, March 11, from noon to 5 p.m. The first race at FCS will be on March 25.
