CARTER, John Louis, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, March 3, 1995. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Valdosta Geneva Carter; one stepson, David A. Calloway; four stepdaughters, Georgia Newsome, Rosa Board, Beverly Calloway and Bonnie J. Calloway, all of Roanoke; one brother, Henry Carter, Gretna; one sister, Rosa Brown, Philadelphia, Pa.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Park. Elder Robert K. Ingram will officiate. Friends may call the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home on Tuesday.

COX, Mattie Beatrice Smith, 91, of Roanoke, formerly of Vinton and Bedford Co., died Friday, March 3, 1995, after a lengthy illness at Friendship Health Care Center. She was the widow of Plateau Preston Rex Cox. She was a longtime member of Mays Memorial United Methodist Church and was a Past Noble Grand of Harmony Rebekah Lodge #36 of Stewartsville. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Imogene and Michael Burnette of Richmond, Eunice and Alburn Smith of Vinton, Joanna and William Caldwell of Roanoke; also nine grandchildren, Alice B. Christian, New Canton, Donna B. Moore of Amelia, Michael Burnette of Fredericksburg, Peggy Smith Stovall of Vinton, Molly Smith Rhodes of Vinton, William Caldwell Jr. of Houston, Texas, Greg Caldwell of Williamsburg, Jodi Caldwell Austin of Forest, Kay Caldwell of Roanoke; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, 1995, at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Sara L. Hudson officiating. DAVIS, C. M., (``Dickie""), 78, of Roanoke, died Thursday, March 2, 1995. He was a retired builder and developer in the Roanoke area for the past 50 years and was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Josie Hess Davis. Surviving are his children and spouses, Martha Davis Carper and husband, C. A. Carper III, Culpeper, Carol Davis Cline, Troy, Va., C. M. (Bo) Davis Jr. and wife, Sharon, Roanoke; brothers and sisters, Harry G. DAVIS, Neville G., 84, of Troutville, passed away Friday, March 3, 1995. She was the widow of Ernest W. Davis Sr. She was retired from Hollins College. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest W. HAYNES, Herbert Hedley Jr., 56, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, March 3, 1995, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County on May 3, 1938, a son of the late Herbert H. Haynes Sr. and Mary Gibbs Haynes. He was a welder for Reco. He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Maxine) Haynes; two daughters, Debra Waller, Rustburg, Audrey Little, Evington; a son, Mark Haynes, Concord; a stepson, Timmy Taskey, Bedford; three brothers, Rudolph Haynes, Berkley Haynes, both of Bedford, Donald Haynes, Silver Springs, Md.; two sisters, Frances Klinkenberg, Bedford, Betty Seaman, Forest; four grandchildren. MILLER, Albert W. Jr., (``Dutch""), 80, of Blacksburg, died Friday, March 3, 1995 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mr. Miller was born in Franklin, Ohio on October 18, 1914. He was a retired Supervisor in the Acid Area at R.A.A.P. He was preceded in death by his wife Alma Miller and a son Carl Miller. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth (Liz) Miller; a stepdaughter, Joyce Whitfield, Hampton; a stepson, Wesley Hill Jr., Virginia Beach; one brother, Henry Miller, Franklin, Ohio; three granddaughters; one great-granddaughter.
