The event will begin with a day of outdoor adventures, featuring llama breeder and trek expert Judy Fee, and a hike with llamas.
Also offered are the Hollins Ropes Course, tours of Explore Park, Mill Mountain Zoo, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail, and a walk with herbalist Robert Wooding.
A panel discussion Friday evening in Hollins' Babcock Auditorium will focus on the ethical and philosophical points of sustainable development, overpopulation and alternative energy options.
Saturday will include speakers Denis Mitten, executive director of Woodswomen, an outdoor adventure and environmental corporation, and Virginia Sexton, member of the Eastern Band of Cherokees and the Rural Southern Voice for Peace.
Saturday's interactive workshops will cover the areas of education and research, government and nonprofits, entrepreneurs and corporate business. Julie Lewis, the creator of Deja Shoes from recyclables, will speak at Saturday's lunch. Also featured will be an ``Eco Fashion'' show, showcasing the newest lines of environmentally aware clothing and accessories.
The conference is designed to offer a showcase of women and their contributions to the environmental field of work. The event is sponsored by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy and the Henry Luce Foundation.
