The work of Jack Beal, a Hollins College faculty member, will be featured in the American Academy Invitational Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture, which opens to the public Tuesday at The American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City.
Beal's work, ``Sense of Sight,'' reveals the objects of his own art process. A camera, binoculars and anatomical models surround a self-portrait of the artist in his studio.
Twenty-four contemporary artists have been selected to participate in this year's show. A total of $52,500 in prizes will be awarded.
Sex assault discussion
State Attorney General James Gilmore will discuss sexual assault and harassment on Virginia's college campuses during an interactive panel discussion Thursday at 2 p.m. in Radford University's Heth Commonwealth Room.
The discussion will inform students of their rights in sexual assault and violence cases and will provide a forum for them to voice their concerns and ask questions. Information will be provided on where to go for guidance and support when needed.

Literary festival
Hollins College's 35th Annual Literary Festival will be held Saturday. This year's featured readers include writer-in-residence Ellen Douglas, fiction writer Tony Earley and poet Brooks Haxton.
Also included in the festival will be a panel discussion on poetry, featuring Haxton with Cathyrn Hankla and Eric Trethewey, literary prizes and a meet-the-author reception.

Kandinsky lecture
The Kandinsky Trio will present an interdisciplinary lecture/demonstration on ``Connecting Musical Styles: The Baroque to the Classical'' on March 14 from 1-2 p.m. in Roanoke College's Olin Recital Hall.
The presentation will feature the music of Bach, Vivaldi, Haydn and Beethoven.

Opera for kids
The Kentucky Opera will present Englebert Humperdinck's ``Hansel and Gretel'' on March 17 at 7 p.m. in Carnegie Hall, Lewisburg, W.Va.
The opera will last less than one hour. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children. No reservations are necessary.
The event is part of the Family Performance Series, sponsored by Carnegie Hall, designed to provide parents with an affordable opportunity to introduce children to the experience of live performances.
