STUDENT TO SWIM AT NATIONAL EVENT

Ginny Johnson, a 13-year-old student at North Cross School, will be competing in the USS Senior National Championships in Minneapolis this weekend. Ginny qualified for the championship by placing first in the 1,650-yard freestyle event at a regional swim meet at the University of South Carolina.

Ginny, daughter of Debbie and Ned Johnson, also placed first in the 500-and 1,000-yard freestyle, and second in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, at the South Carolina meet.

On the state level, Ginny established a new state record at the Virginia State Independent Schools Swimming Championships held in Norfolk last month, where 21 high schools and 422 swimmers competed. Ginny placed first in both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and broke records which had stood since 1988. For that accomplishment, Ginny was recognized as the Female Swimmer of the Meet.
