Clark had a successful bone marrow transplant in December 1994. But her insurance company would not cover the costs of the procedure, because, at that time, bone marrow transplants were considered "experimental and investigative."
The "Friends of Kaye Clark Fund Committee" has organized several fund-raising efforts. Proceeds from yard, candy and bake sales went to the fund, as well as donations made at the Salem's Police Ball, offerings made at a local church and money collected from cannisters displayed at local businesses.
The Organ Transplant Fund Inc. is also accepting donations in Clark's behalf. NInety-five percent of the money collected will be designated to Clark's medical expenses. The other 5 percent is used by the Organ Transplant Fund to keep it functioning.
Anyone wishing to help may send a donation to: The Organ Transplant Fund Inc., P.O. Box 411, Salem, Va., 24153. All contributions are tax deductible.
