FIVE YEARS OF GOSPEL MUSIC AT UNION HALL

The Rev. Carl Ratcliffe's monthly gospel gatherings at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers union hall, Peppers Ferry Road, Fairlawn, mark their FIFTH ANNIVERSARY tonight at 7. ``It's kind of a special thing, five years,'' Ratcliffe mused this week. Ratcliffe, the pastor at Riner Grace Brethren Church and a gospel musician himself, said the free monthly gospel sings have taken on a life of their own since he came up with the idea.

``We've got a lot of good local artists, and it gives them a chance to sing for the Lord,'' he said. Typically, a hundred or so people turn out to listen, and sometimes to make their own audio or video recordings, said Ratcliffe, who also spins gospel tunes weekends on Blacksburg's WKEX (1430 AM).

This evening, The Farley Brothers and Young at Heart join the Highland Gospel Singers and the Gospel Strings, Ratcliffe's group.

For more information, call Ratcliffe at 382-7571 or 382-4654.
