PENNIES AGAINST DEFICIT

A Pulaski County man has come up with a way for citizens to help reduce the federal budget deficit - one cent at a time.

Just about everybody has jars of pennies around the house, Jeffrey Johnson says. Why not donate them to try to put the government spending in the black?

"Pennies Against the Deficit" has already begun its campaign, bringing volunteers from 23 states, including Virginia, to a Washington rally in February. The National Penny Parade runs until Oct. 15.

For more information or to donate, call Jeffrey Johnson at 980-2842 or The Fund to End the Deficit at (202) 628-4455.
