Donations sought
The Virginia Museum of Transportation is raising funds to build a protective cover for the J611 steam engine.
The J611 was returned to Roanoke, where it was built, when it was retired by the Norfolk Southern Corporation in November. It is currently housed in a protected building on Norfolk Southern's property.
At the end of May, the engine will be moved to the museum.
The cover for the J611 will be the first phase of a four-part plan to cover the railyard collection. The cost for this phase is $150,000.
Donations may be sent to the Virginia Museum of Transportation, 303 Norfolk Ave., Roanoke Va. 24016.
