Craig tries to include an array of subject matter when teaching science. She combines art and reading in her lesson plans, which often do not include textbook work.
" I try to make every lesson different," Craig said.
"Mrs. Craig makes science class fun," said the pupil who nominated her. "We don't always use the book, we really do things."
Craig initiated her school's participation in Invent America, a national competition where children come up with their own inventions. Some of the creations from the past include an automatic pet feeder, a stop sign that bends and a toothbrush that secretes toothpaste.
Scott Memorial has had a state winner in recent years, but Craig says the idea is to get all children participating.
An 18-year teaching veteran, Craig is married and the mother of a 14-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy. She enjoys crafts and collecting rocks.
