Author Fred D'Aguiar will present a reading and sign his books March 31 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. at Virginia Tech's University Volume Two Bookstore.
A reception will be held at the Black Cultural Center from 7-8 p.m.
D'Aguiar, raised in Guyana and now living in Maine, is the author of ``The Longest Memory,'' winner of two awards in England for a first novel. He has also written three books of poetry and has won the T.S. Eliot Prize and the Guyanese National Poetry Award.
Festival of books
``Charlottesville: A Book Town'' is the theme of the Virginia Festival of the Book which will take place in Charlottesville on March 30-April 1.
Writers John Casey, poet laureate Rita Dove, George Garrett, Joyce Carol Oates and more than 50 other writers will participate.
Readings, workshops, related activities for children and exhibits will highlight the three-day festival. Most events are free and open to the public.

Museum exhibit
The Fredericksburg Area Museum's current exhibit, ``The Write Stuff: Three Centuries of Fredericksburg on Paper,'' has won first place in the American Association of Museum Curators' Committee Seventh Annual Exhibit Competition.
This award is given to the top exhibit in the country, recognizing outstanding achievement in the content, interpretation and presentation of exhibits.
