SCHOOLS CLOSING EARLY FOR GAME

A 70-53 win Friday by Liberty High School's boys' basketball team over Gate City put the team into the state semifinals. The win also means most Bedford County public schools will release students two hours early Friday.

Schools in the Liberty area will close on the following schedule: Liberty High School, 11:30 a.m.; Bedford Middle School, 11:20 a.m.; Bedford Elementary, 11 a.m.; Bedford Primary, 11 a.m.; Thaxton Elementary, 11:05 a.m.; Montvale Elementary, 11:05 a.m.; and Big Island Elementary, 10:55 a.m.

Schools had been scheduled to close two hours early Thursday for parent-teacher conferences, but students now will attend a full day Thursday.

Conferences will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Liberty basketball players will travel to the Vine Center at Liberty University in Lynchburg to face Nansemond River from Suffolk. The game starts at 1 p.m.

Four Group AA teams remain in the competition.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at Liberty High School.
