BLACKSBURG - Beverly Sgro, Virginia's secretary of education, will discuss the future of higher education in the commonwealth at the Greater Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center, Virginia Tech.
Chamber members will present the Distinguished Citizen Award and the Business Person of the Year Award during the dinner.
A social sponsored by the National Bank of Blacksburg, First National Bank, NationsBank, the Virginia Tech Credit Union, Charter Federal, First Virginia Southwest and Central Fidelity precedes the event at 6:30 p.m.

Women's group plans fund-raising talk
BLACKSBURG - The New River Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association will hold its Spring Enrollment Event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Holiday Inn-Blacksburg.
The organization brings together women of diverse occupations for personal and professional growth through education, leadership, networking, and recognition.
Marie McDaniel, a Hollins Charter Chapter member, will detail how her chapter raised $33,000 in scholarship funds in one year.

Officials to explain sales tax issues
CHRISTIANSBURG - The New River Valley Chapter of the National Association of Purchasing Management-Virginia will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Huckleberry. Members may attend an optional dinner at 6:30 p.m.
