THE REV. RICARDO RODRIGUEZ, associate pastor of Vinton Wesleyan Church for more than seven years, has left the staff to become pastor of Preston Wesleyan Church in Martinsville. Prior to his move to Vinton in 1987, Rodriguez was on the staff of First Wesleyan Church for five years.
RON LOWE has left the staff of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton. Lowe has been organist at the church for the past 10 years.
REVIVAL SERVICES are in progress through Friday at Evangel Foursquare Church, 612 Bullitt Ave. S.E. Preaching at 7 p.m. is Evangelist Richard Moore with Rodney Howard-Browne assisting.
RIVERDALE BAPTIST CHURCH will send seven members on a mission trip to Harrisburg, Pa., March 27-April 1. The team, led by the pastor, the Rev. Robert Lanier, will help renovate a building for use as a clinic and chapel for inner city residents.
ROANOKE AREA MINISTRIES, an interfaith service agency, will sponsor a concert March 26 at 2 p.m. at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 809 Orange Ave. N.W. The church's gospel choir will sing. Proceeds will be used to repair the commercial dishwasher used at RAM's day shelter. Other donations also are needed for the appliance and may be sent to RAM at 824 Campbell Ave. S.W., Roanoke, 24016.
CHURCHES OF THE BRETHREN will unite April 2-5 to sponsor Lenten renewal services, known as Awakening. The services will be held at Central Church, 416 Church Ave. S.W. in downtown Roanoke with the Rev. Bob Kettering of Mannheim, Pa., as the guest preacher.
He is a former Pennsylvania pastor and district executive. Special music will begin at 7:15 p.m. Child care will be provided. This is the 13th year for Awakening.
SINGLENESS: BLESSING OR CURSE? is the theme of a seminar Friday at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 515 Third St. S.W. in Room 220. The seminar will include a panel discussion with opportunity for single adults to discuss their lifestyle.
The Rev. Ed Kohl, minister to singles, will be resource person. The program follows a potluck meal. Call 224-3370 for more information.
FIVE INDUSTRIAL CHAPLAINS, volunteers with the ecumenical Institute of Industrial and Commercial Ministries, Inc., are serving government offices and an auto dealership in the Roanoke Valley.
The chaplains are the Revs. Robin Colwell, Richard L. McNutt, Charles Gwaltney, Ronald E. Hoppaugh and Paul Lancaster. They are among 192 chaplains nationally who offer emotional and spiritual support to workers on the job.
HAITIAN ROMAN CATHOLICS living in the Roanoke Valley are being served by an adapted service at St. Gerard Church, 809 Orange Ave. N.W. The Rev. Wayne Ball, pastor, speaks French, which many from the Caribbean country understand, and has obtained some materials in Creole. An estimated 30 Haitians are part of the congregation.
Another group of Haitians is meeting each Sunday at Ridgewood Baptist Church on Hemlock Road Northwest.
GRACE AND TRUTH BAPTIST CHURCH, 3541 Orange Ave. N.E., plans revival services Sunday through Wednesday. Sunday worship, led by the Rev. Lacy Brooks, will be at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Services during the week will be at 7:30 p.m.
A POWHATAN INDIAN, Sun Eagle, and his wife, Gentle Wind, of the Mattaponi Reservation near Richmond, will speak Sunday at 9:30 and 11 a.m. at Roanoke Unitarian Universalist Church, 2015 Grandin Road S.W. Other guests from the reservation also plan to be at the service, which will focus on American Indian spirituality.
