The Revco drug store in Blacksburg Square was robbed after closing on Feb. 13. The TCBY store on North Main Street was robbed on Feb. 15.
The new drawings better depict witnesses' descriptions of the two men, police said. That's because the original drawings were made using an Identi-kit, a book of disembodied chins, ears, noses, lips, eyes, hairstyles and other features that provide a compilation of general characteristics from which investigators can work.
The new drawings are computer-generated sketches using software at the Virginia State Police Wytheville headquarters.
"They're better because they have more selection and you can size your selections," to enlarge and reduce features such as noses and lips, said Detective Danny Compton.
Police have received several calls since the release of the updated drawings.
"We've had quite a few calls. ... We're in the process of eliminating them," Compton said.
Police have also re-released a composite drawing of a suspect in the Jan. 23 armed robbery of Domino's Pizza on North Main Street.
Police ask anyone with information on the robberies or the possible identities of the people shown in the composites to call the department's tip line at 961-1819.
