SPRING BREEZES BRING THOUGHTS OF GRASS SEED

It's almost time to sow grass seed in the Roanoke Valley, either to reseed completely, to fill in bare spots, or to add new turf varieties to an established lawn.

In Virginia, the best time for turf seeding is late summer; however, early spring is the next choice and is suggested for those areas where tender new grass could be at risk in the fall, such as near deciduous trees where leaf raking in midfall could pull out newly established grass plants.
