Applications are being accepted for the Seventh Annual Summer Field School in Historical Archaeology at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest in Bedford County.
The program, to be held June 19-July 15, is open to untrained and experienced adults interested in gaining hands-on experience and developing skills in excavation, recording data and lab procedures.
Non-credit cost for the program is $275. Up to five hours of academic credit from the University of Virginia is available. Student housing is available at area colleges.

Art lecture
Realist painter and art critic Robert Berlind will present a lecture at the Art Museum of Western Virginia's Lecture Hall on March 24 at 2:30 p.m.
Berlind, who writes for Art In America, Sculpture, and Arts Magazine, will offer a glimpse of current exhibitions and artists constituting the leading edge in today's New York art scene.
Berlind will be in western Virginia as curator of ``From These Hills,'' a juried exhibit at the William King Regional Arts Center in Abingdon. He is currently professor of art at SUNY Purchase.
Recent exhibits of his paintings have been held in New York galleries, the Yale University Art Gallery and the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters awards exhibit.

The Virginia Tech Theatre Arts Department needs items to be used as props or scenic decoration for its production of ``Bells Are Ringing.''
