TERRY, Sam Ellis Jr., (``Pedro""), of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, March 14, 1995. He was the son of the late Sam Ellis Sr. and Margaret Gean Gravely Terry. He is survived by his wife Betty Shaver Terry; two stepsons and daughter-in-law; William F. Jr. and Debra Shaver, Blacksburg; Michael G. Shaver, Savanah, Ga.; three sisters, Elaine Stevens, Wytheville; Patty Owens and Pam Mullens, both of Max Meadows; two special uncles, Ed Easter, Austinville and Junior Cox, South Carolina; one newphew and two nieces. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 19, 1995 at 2 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. AKERS, Sidney Edward, 54, of Sunnyside, died Friday, March 17, 1995 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mr. Akers was born in Montgomery County, on December 14, 1938, a son of the late Edward McKinley and Rose Fields Akers. Survivors include his wife Eunice Sheppard Akers; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Shirley Akers, Sunnyside, and Larry and Ruth Ann Akers, McCoy; one daughter, Lynn Akers of the home; two special grandsons, Sheldon Akers and Justin Akers; five sisters, Edith Cromer, Blacksburg, Hazel Hinkley, Radford, Alva Linkous, Shawsville, Edna Franklin, Roanoke and Lillian A. Lanier, N. C.; three brothers, Bentley Akers, Thurman Akers both of Christiansburg, and John David Akers, Germany; nieces and nephews. BOWERS, Pryor W., 78, of Mooresville, N. C., died Friday, March 17, 1995, at Catawba Memorial Hospital, Hickory, N.C. A Halifax County native, Mr. Bow ers was the son of the late W. Ray and Sally Gardner Bowers. He graduated Aurelian Springs High School in 1934 a subsequently attended Oak Ridge Military Institute and Wake Forest College. he worked with his father on the family farm at Brinkleyville, N.C. from 1938 until 1952. In 1952 Pryor and his family moved to Winston-Salem, N.C. and entered the heating and air conditioning business. He relocated the business, Carolina Gas Equipment Co., to Charlotte, N.C. in 1962 and provided residential heating and air conditioning installation and service in the Charlotte area until his retirement in 1982. He was an avid golfer and competed in Ballroom Dancing contests. he was a long time resident of Hunting Town Farms community in Charlotte. Following retirement, he moved to the Mallard Head subdivision off Brawley School Road outside of Mooresville, N.C. Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife, Lillian Gupton Bowers of the home, two daughters, Mrs. Patsy Masten of Mooresville, N.C., Mrs. Nancy B. Lawhon, Murles Inlet, S.C.; a brother, Mr. William E. Bowers of Charleston, W.Va.; a sister, Mrs. Sallie Wilkerson of Richmond; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. A funeral service will be conducted at the graveside at Sharon Memorial Park on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Danny Deaton former pastor of Sharon Baptist Church where Mr. Bowers was a member. The family will receive friends at McEwen, Charlotte Chapel on Monday evening from 7 until 8:30. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donors choice. McEwen, Charlotte Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Bowers.

He was an Executive Vice President of Hanover Bank; former Senior Vice President Signet Bank, OIC Corporate Service Quality, Richmond; former Senior Vice President and Regional Executive of Signet Bank, Roanoke; member of Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, Council of Associates; Outstanding Young Virginian, 1985; former member of Board of Trustees Virginia Weseyan College; member of Presidents Advisory Board Committee of Children's Home Society; former President of Petersburg Chamber of Comme rce; and former Executive Committee of United Way of Southside Virginia and Roanoke. Surviving are his wife, Vicki Halbert Brooks; two sons, Philip R. Brooks III and C. Austin Brooks; his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Philip R. Brooks, Weems; and a brother, Ned Brooks, Va. Beach. A mass of the resurrection will be said Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Edwards Catholic Church, Midlothian, with interment to follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. BRYANT, Emma Virginia, 73, of Lexington, died Saturday, March 18, 1995 at University of Va. Hospital, Charlottesville. Born in Rockbridge Co., April 15, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Jasper Conner and Margaret Carter Conner. Mrs. Bryant attended Victory Baptist Church and was the widow of Clarence A. CORRELL, Beulah Boothe, 85, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday night, March 15, 1995, in a Salem nursing home. She had served as a nurse at the former New Altamont Hospital in Christiansburg for several years. DAVIS, Dr. Charles Emmett Jr., M.D., 79, of Norfolk, died Friday, March 17, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital. Born 1915 and raised in Smythe County, he attended Roanoke College and the University of Virginia, where he was admitted, without the need of a college degree to medical school. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society and became an M.D. in 1940. He served as a Chief Surgical Resident, University of Virginia Hospital. He practiced general surgery in Norfolk from 1948 to 1985. He was an instructor in Surgery at the University of Virginia Medical School, Director and Chief of Surgery for eight years at Norfolk General Hospital and twelve years at DePaul Hospital and Consulting Surgeon to the Portsmouth Naval Hospital for twenty-five years. Dr. Davis was the author of thirty articles published in America's leading surgical journals. He was a Professor of Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He was a past President of the Medical Society of Virginia, the Virginia Surgical Society, the University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association, the Norfolk Academy of Medicine and the Medical Staff of DePaul Hospital. He served as associate editor of the ``Virginia Medical," Councilor to the Medical Society of Virginia, Chairman of the State Continued Medical Education Commission and member of the Virginia Governor's Emergency Commission. He was a consulting surgeon to Medical Center Hospitals and DePaul Hospital. He was a member of the Credentials Committee of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Southern Surgical Association and Southeastern Surgical Congress. Dr. Davis served on the Committee for Academic Affairs of Roanoke College and the Roanoke College Board of Trustees. He was the first recipient of the Roanoke College metal for Distinguished achievement. He was Civil War historian and served on the 1961 to 1965 Civil War Commission. Survivors include a friend, Ms. Barbara McDonald, Norfolk; children, Nancy Browner and William L. Davis both of Virginia Beach, Charles E. Davis III, of Hanalei, Hawaii, Rebecca Anne Solheim of Bolder, Colo., and Peter M. Davis (deceased); six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His body will be sent from the Cox Funeral Home to the Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat, where a graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, 1995, in Mountain View Cemetery by Bishop Richard F. Bansemer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Davis Foundation Program at Roanoke College, a scholarship program for gifted, low income students. GILL, Lawrence L., 79, of Roanoke, departed this life on March 15, 1995. He was born in Roanoke, Va. on April 15, 1915 to the late James and Mary Jane Gill. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Nathaniel Gill. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces and resided in Washington, D.C. for many years prior to his retirement and returning to Roanoke to live. He is survived by his wife, Ann Childress Gill; three daughters, Robyn, Pamela and Tracy Gill, all of Roanoke; five grandchildren; one brother, Robert J. (Annie Belle) Gill, of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Mary G. HODGES, Bessie Kirkwood Dickerson, 94, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died Friday, March 17, 1995 at Regency Oaks Nursing Center in Clearwater, Fla. Mrs. Hodges graduated from James Madison University in 1921 and taught in the Vinton and Roanoke Public Schools until 1923, when she was married to the late Claude Wyatt Dickerson by her uncle, the Rev. Charles Kirkwood, at the First Baptist Church and in 1973 she was married to the late J. Cutchin Hodges. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jean Dickerson Boswell, Easton, Pa.; a son, Claude Wyatt Dickerson Jr., Washington, D.C.; a sister, Sarah Kirkwood Mills, Clearwater, Fla.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Jack B. (Jeanne) Coulter, Roanoke, and Mrs. H. Wesley (Elizabeth) McAden, McLean, Va.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. HUBBARD, Inez Haden, 92, of Route 4, Stuart, Saturday morning, March 18, 1995, at her residence. Mr. Hubbard was born in Patrick County to the late Joe Taylor and Jathina Belcher Haden. Mrs. Hubbard was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Edgar Hubbard who passed away February 19, 1995. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late James Rush and Daisy Blankenship Jackson. He was a retired Wythe County Farmer, a member of the Anchor of Hope Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel ``Sis"" Mabe Jackson, a sister, Maude Jackson Mabe, and a brother, Newton Jackson. JOHNSON, Martin J., 75, of Vinton, passed away March 18, 1995. He was preceded in death by his son, Martin Jr. in March 1991. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his sons, John P. He is also survived by brothers Joseph Johnson and his wife Grace, William Johnson and his wife Lucretia; sisters, Sr. Catherine Johnson O. P., Mary Metz and her husband William; sister-in-law, Helen Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews all of Akron, Ohio, the former home of Mr. Johnson and his family until 1971. She was born in Wythe County, November 3, 1898 and was the daughter of the late William Sheppard Crawford and Lelia Coulson Crawford. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, David W. Durmon and Louie B. Mabry, a daughter, Joy Belle Cox, a son, Merle F. Durmon, a stepson, Richard Mabry, a stepdaughter, Mary Sowers, and a g randson, Steven Douglas Smith. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski and a member of the Truth Rebekah Lodge #100 of Blacksburg. She was a retired employee of Stegers Laundry, Pulaski. He is survived by brothers, William B. Martin, Howard W. Martin; sisters, Betty Woods, Allean Lilly, Frances Frazier; special friends, Geraldine Drumheller, Nancy Goad, Robin Salzbach and Larry Drumheller. MOLTER, James H. Sr., (''Moe""), 75, of Roanoke, died Saturday, March 18, 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Molter. He was a retired M/Sgt. 20 years service in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Cave Spring and Virginia Heights Masonic Lodge. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James H. II and Carol Molter; two grandchildren, Kristin and Melissa Molter; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elton and Frances Molter, Fred and Louise Molter, of Fort Union; five nieces; one great-nephew; and two very special friends, James and Agnes Bushnell. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, 1995 at Oakey's North Chapel with Dr. WIlliam L. Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
