BLACKSBURG - April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Blacksburg Junior Woman's Club is sponsoring a blue-ribbon campaign to remind people about the problems of child abuse.
The club is encouraging residents to wear the blue ribbons club members will distribute throughout the community. For more information, call Cyndy Wilson Muscatello at 552-5016.
Weekend workshop on women, violence
BLACKSBURG - Women who are survivors of violence and family members and friends of women who have been victims of violence are invited to a workshop Saturday and Sunday at Virginia Tech.
Participants will create T-shirts with messages and illustrations about violence against women. The New River Valley Clothesline Project was formed to offer visual testimony of the effects of such violence.
Saturday's workshop is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in room G of the Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center. Sunday's workshop will be from noon until 2 p.m. in room 132, Lane Hall.
The finished shirts will be displayed at the Take Back the Night Rally on the campus Monday and again in Squires Student Center.

Old courthouse open for tours
PULASKI - The Old Pulaski County Courthouse is open for self-guided tours on the first Saturday of each month, with volunteer guides available to answer questions.
Groups interested in special tours at other times can call 980-7845 two weeks in advance of the desired date, with the name and telephone number of a person in charge of the group and the expected number of participants.
Orientation sessions for tour guides will be held at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday in the New River room at the courthouse. People interested in volunteering can call Terri Gregory at 980-7797 or Elrica Graham at 980-4640.
