RELIGION BRIEFS

VINTON CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN, 711 Dale Ave., Vinton, has scheduled a concert by the Sanctuary Choir from High Street Baptist Church on Sunday at 7 p.m.

HOLY WIND, a contemporary gospel choir, will perform Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Jordantown Wesleyan Church on Virginia 619, near Vinton. The program is free. A nursery will be open. Call 890-0259 for more information.

THE ANNUAL PRAYER BREAKFAST, sponsored by Guiding Star Church of God in Christ, is scheduled Saturday beginning at 8:30 at the church, 804 Madison Ave. N.W. Advance tickets for the buffet meal are available for $5 by calling 344-8653 after 9 p.m. Tickets also are available at the door.

The guest speaker will be the Rev. Sheree Sykes, co-pastor of Sheikh Preparation Assembly of Lynchburg.

VILLA HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH, 4080 Challenger Ave. N.E., will have revival services Sunday through Wednesday nights at 7. Rev. Carl Burger will be the evangelist, and special music will be presented nightly. A nursery also will be available.

EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH in the Kingstown neighborhood of Roanoke County will be host to the annual session of the Missionary Baptist District Bible School Convention of Southwest Virginia on Friday and Saturday. The meeting offers training to teachers for various age groups in churches.

The Rev. George Hamilton, a chaplain at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, will preach at the concluding dinner Saturday. The meeting will begin Friday at 5:45 p.m. and at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

GRACE ACADEMY, a member of the Association of Christian Schools International, has planned an open house on April 7. The Friday program will include visits to classes between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Call 982-0104 for more information. The elementary school is at 2731 Edgewood St. S.W. and is an outreach ministry of Grace Church, an evangelical congregation.

WEST SALEM BAPTIST CHURCH, 500 Turner Road, Salem, will begin a 10-week support group for third- and fourth-grade children who are affected by divorce. The series starts Sunday at 9:45 a.m. and will begin with a parents' orientation session. Sessions for children begin April 2. The cost is $10 for a workbook. Call 389-2129 for more information. CHAD PACK, a 1993 Glenvar High School graduate who speaks both French and Spanish, will leave April 12 for a two-year mission assignment with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Pack, son of Steve and Lela Brown of Salem, will serve in Bordeaux, France. He will address the Salem LDS congregation on Wayburn Drive during a special service at 11 a.m. Sunday.
