GRANDIN COURT BAPTIST TO OBSERVE 50TH ANNIVERSARY

The congregation of Grandin Court Baptist Church will begin the celebration of its 50th anniversary with spring renewal services April 2-4. The Rev. William A. Slater, pastor of Marion Baptist Church, will preach at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service and each night at 7.

The culture and attire of the mid-1940s will be the focus May 21 at 10:30 a.m.

Grandin Court Baptist Church was started at the end of World War II to serve the rapidly expanding Southwest Roanoke suburbs along Brambleton Avenue. The church at 2660 Brambleton has had several additions since then.

Other events include a program June 25 in which Fred Anderson, Virginia Baptist historian, will portray an early pastor. A picnic in Penn Forest Park, with tickets on sale for $8 for adults and $4 for children, will follow at 1:30 p.m.

On five Sundays in October, former pastors and affiliates of the church will be guest preachers. The final event will be an anniversary luncheon Oct. 29 at Holiday Inn-Tanglewood.
