K OF C TOURNEY WINNERS NAMED

The North Roanoke Wolfpack, Vinton Blue Devils and High Street Saints won championships in the 26th annual Knights of Columbus basketball tournaments Sunday at Roanoke Catholic.

In the Midget League tournament, the Wolfpack edged the Vinton Hokies 38-36 as Danny Karbassiyoon scored 18 points and took the most valuable player title. He is joined on the all-tournament team by David Belcher and Matt Tingler of the Vinton Hokies, teammates Chris Ferguson and Chris Howell, and Clay Starkey of the Mount Pleasant Suns.

The Vinton Blue Devils stopped the Vinton Hornets 45-27 in the Little League tournament as Bo Royal, the most valuable player, scored 33 points. He had 87 points in four games.

Royal heads the all-tournament team that includes Jeremy Newman of the North Roanoke Hawks, Adam Padget of the Cave Spring Hornets, Jeff Wright of the North Roanoke Tar Heels, Adam Young and Jason Blake of the Cave Spring Cavaliers, Davey Arthur of the Cave Spring Warriors, Adam Beck and Craig Janney of the Vinton Hornets, and Matt Ashby and Chris Trent of the Vinton Blue Devils.

The High Street Saints held off the West Salem Rockets 50-48 for the Junior League title as most valuable player Jason Roberson totaled 49 points in three games including 13 3-point shots. He was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Karlton Willis, Josh Warren and Jason Smith for the West Salem Rockets, and Keith Anderson and Adam Smith for the Cloverdale Suns.

William Byrd junior Chris Childress edged William Fleming senior Derrick Hines 21-17 in the One-on-One competition. Hines beat Lord Botetourt's Shannon Williams in the semifinals while Childress topped Roanoke Catholic's Alex Dickson.
