SALEM'S WILSON WINS 1995 OPENER AT FCS

Dicky Wilson took the lead on the 92nd lap and went on to win the season-opening Community Directory 300 on Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway.

Bobby Radford of Ferrum led the first 58 laps, but gave up the lead when his car's engine overheated. Dudley Lawhorn, the 1994 track champion, took over from Radford and set the pace until Wilson took the lead.

Wilson, from Salem, earned the first prize of $1,500. He was followed by Lawhorn, Steve Lynch of Rocky Mount, pole-sitter Malcolm Fink of Salem and Kenny Wagner of Rocky Mount.

Another Rocky Mount driver, Mike Elkins, took the checkered flag in the 25-lap Street Stock feature. Completing the top five were Freddie Goff, Mike Dudley of Roanoke, Bobby Gillespie of Floyd and Skip Bennington of Roanoke.

Chris Martin won the Mini Stock race, Jay Perry was the top finisher among the Pure Stocks, Ricky Ferguson took first place in the Rookie division, Teddy Lawless won the Trucks race and Leon Moles took the checkered flag for the Any Car division.
