STILL TIME TO DONATE TO SENIOR ATHLETES' RUMMAGE SALE

The SENIOR ATHLETES OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY RUMMAGE SALE is Friday, 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Christiansburg National Guard Armory, College and Depot streets. Baked goods are available Saturday. There's still time to donate items. Call Catherine McKenzie, 382-3744.

Speaking of athletes, registration ends Tuesday for the Senior Olympics training and practice session April 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (or so), at the Blacksburg Community Center and Blacksburg Municipal Park, Patrick Henry Drive.

The New River Valley Agency on Aging processes SENIOR IDENTIFICATION CARDS during April at several sites in the New River Valley. Anyone 60 or older is eligible to get one. Applicants need proof of age and Social Security number; a driver's license, birth certificate and Social Security card generally are OK.

The I.D. card has a picture, name, address, birth date and Social Security number. The agency requests a $1.50 donation to defray costs.

Here are the dates for early April:

April 7, 10 a.m.-noon, New River Valley Agency on Aging, 141. E. Main St., Pulaski.

April 10, 10 a.m.-noon, Radford Senior Center, 27 First St. (downstairs).

SENIOR GATHERINGS

The Choices and Challenges Project free forum, "Quality of Life in the Electronic Village," is Thursday, 8:30-4:30 p.m., Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center, Virginia Tech. The forum explores ways computer networks may affect communities and individuals.

American Association of Retired Persons Highland Chapter 53 meets Tuesday, noon, fellowship hall, Cambria Baptist Church. Tonya Roberts of American Life Services speaks. Brown bag lunch furnished. 382-7139.

The Senior Discussion Group meets April 6, 10-11 a.m., Blacksburg Community Center. Matt Hart discusses the operation of the Montgomery County Magistrate's Office.

Registration opens Monday for a trip to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tenn. June 23-26. $245 includes double occupancy, Dollywood and other planned activities. $25 deposit is required.

Coffee hour is Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. A gospel sing follows at 11 a.m.

A ceramics class starts Tuesday, 7 p.m., and meets for four weeks. Registration is $2.

A free blood pressure screening is Wednesday, April 5, 10-11 a.m.

A combination breakfast and shopping excursion to Wytheville is April 7. Transportation for seniors is $4 leaves the National Guard Armory, College and Depot streets, at 8 a.m.

RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM, 1 Franklin St., Courthouse Annex, Christiansburg. Victoria Scott, 382-5775:

Today, the Christiansburg morning group visits Meadowbrook at 10 a.m. The afternoon group visits Brook Meade at 2 p.m.

Thursday, 10 a.m., the Blacksburg group meets at the Courthouse.

Monday, noon, the Shawsville luncheon is at White Memorial Church. Anyone 55 or older is welcome.

New date: The Christiansburg luncheon, Tuesday, noon, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, recognizes National Volunteer month.

The "Design your own Shirt" class is today and Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. It's $5 for materials. Bring a prewashed cotton shirt, tote bag or apron. Registration is required.

Friday, travel to Mercer Mall, West Virginia. Transportation is $2 and leaves the center at 9:30 a.m. Lunch is on your own at K&W Cafeteria.

The swim therapy program meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:45 a.m., Blacksburg Aquatic Center.

The nutrition program is Thursdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Schedule changes for the week of April 3: Center opens 10 a.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday, and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

Needs Assessment Survey: Forms from the New River Valley Agency on Aging are available in local senior centers and at the elderly nutrition site, Floyd Community Action building. The agency plans programs for seniors 60 and older in Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski counties and Radford. Surveys give seniors a chance to say what they'd like to see. Free Income Tax Help: In Montgomery County, for county residents 60 or older, through April 13 by appointment Thursdays, 1-4 p.m., Christiansburg Senior Center, 655 Montgomery St. 382-8173. Bring copies of 1993 federal and state tax returns and forms for the 1994 tax year, including Form W-2 and other information relevant to 1994 income.

Yard Sale: The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County seeks donations, including furniture, kitchen items and appliances, for its sale April 21.
