Lee jeans headed for India market

VF Corp., Wyomissing, Pa., parent of Bassett-Walker Inc. of Martinsville, said Wednesday it will launch sale of its Lee jeans brand in India. All manufacturing and marketing in India will be handled through a technical assistance agreement between Lee and AM-IN Horizons Inc., a U.S.-based company that is affiliated with the India-based Arvind Fashions Ltd.

The venture was established in 1993. Arvind Fashions has since established a manufacturing facility in Bangalore, India.

Morrison Restaurants Inc., Mobile, Ala.-based operator of the Morrison's Cafeteria in Roanoke, reported net income of $13.1 million, or 37 cents a share, on sales of $271.9 million in its third quarter ended March 4, compared with year-earlier $12.3 million, or 33 cents a share, on sales of $309.9 million. For the nine months, net income was $49.8 million, or $1.38 a share, on sales of $765.7 million, compared with year-earlier $32.4 million, or 87 cents a share, on sales of $902.5 million.
