UPSILON TAU CHAPTER, KAPPA DELTA PI, at Roanoke College recently inducted several Roanoke Valley students. They are: Christy Caveness, Kay Thompson, Kathy Weather, Laurie Williams all from Roanoke; Paige Burge, Holly Cromer, Lorraine Smith all from Salem; Buddy Hansbarger, Vinton.
The following students were named as officers: Erica Dixon, president, and Amy Bagliani, treasurer, both Troutville; Kathy Roberts, historian/reporter, Salem.
BRANDON S. FIELD, of Roanoke has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
CARL CRENSHAW, of Roanoke recently graduated from Lynchburg College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology.
LORI BROWDER, daughter of Helen Browder of Roanoke and Charlie Browder of Hazard, Ky., won the title of Belle of the Blue Scholarship Pageant at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky.
Browder and other contestants were judged in scholarship interview, talent, public poise and appearance.
The prize included a $1,000 scholarship that Browder will use to study elementary education and music as well as minor psychology.
WILLIAM BYRD HIGH SCHOOL has announced the names of students who were ranked in the National German Exam. Those earning a grade of superior were: Tamara Ayers, Omeed Dariani, Nadia Guertle, Stephanie McPhail and Whitney Saunders.
Achieving the grade of excellent were: Jessie Beach, Jay Calhoun, Elizabeth Childs, Rosalind Doty, Tracy Doupnik, Julia Jackson, Jennifer Krippel, Amanda Lytton, Wayne Sparrow and Schon Williams.
Achieving the grade of outstanding were: Joey Ball, Alan Begendahl, Gretchen Dress, Julie Duvall, Chris Fazler, Melissa Gutherie, Evan Maxey and Ben Snyder.
Tamara Ayers qualified for one of 45 trips to Germany being given away.
