Salem announces new trash collection hours

The City of Salem Sanitation Department has announced that effective April 2, employees will be working from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to collect garbage. This will replace the regular 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule.

All residents should have their toters at the usual location for pick-up by 6 a.m. on their regular collection day.

Salem police install 24-hour crime line

The Salem Police Department has installed a 24-hour Criminal Tip Line.

The department hopes to make it easier for citizens to offer information on all types of crimes. All information given on the tip line will remain confidential within the Police Department, according to Detective Mike Green.

Green said he typically works on drug cases and is not always in the office to take crime tips. Often, callers would not leave a name or message because they wanted to talk to him directly.

The crime line allows callers to leave information without a name or phone number. However, Green said if a caller wanted a return call from an officer a phone number is necessary.

The tip line is 389-0583 and is operating day and night. Anyone calling tip line should leave the following information: type of crime, names of those involved, location where crime was committed and time, as well as vehicle descriptions and license plate numbers.
