STATE FINES PLANT IN WORKER'S DEATH

State inspectors say the death last fall of a National Fruit Product Co. employee was due, at least in part, to the company's failure to provide a required safety system in its canning plant.

The the state Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited National Fruit for eight violations and fined the company $23,500.

Janet L. Corder, 26, of Clearbrook, died Sept. 30, two days after she suffered severe burns at the company's main canning plant in Winchester.
