SCHOOL OFFICIALS AT CALIFORNIA MEETING

Four Montgomery County School Board members and Superintendent Herman Bartlett are in San Francisco this weekend at the National School Boards Association 55th annual conference.

School Board Chairman Roy Vickers, Bob Goncz, Lou Herrmann, Barry Worth and Peggy Arrington are participating in seminars and discussions on various educational issues. Some of the discussions include: how to use a new computer network to link school files via modem, how to save money by switching to a regionalized food vendor and how to solicit bids for the lowest priced computer software.

The conference fee for each member is $485. The minimum cost for the trip, not counting meals or additional workshops, is $6,250. However, Bartlett said in a press release that the money-saving ideas presented at the conference will save the school system almost 100 times that much money.
