NOBLE INTENTIONS
I am proud of our country and the city of Roanoke for all its noble
intentions and energy to make things better, but your report shows vividly how
these intentions turn sour when we always (or very often) see the problems
through the eyes of the people in power rather than the people we are
supposedly trying to help. We cannot re-create these lost neighborhoods and
communities, as much as I wish we could, but hopefully, this powerful and
courageous article will help us from repeating its mistake. If we look at the
problems of the poor and the "less powerful" and try to feel as they feel, we
will move more slowly perhaps, but always with more compassion and wisdom!
