BLOCK SCHEDULING DOES HAVE ITS PROBLEMS, DETRACTORS

The block scheduling being considered in the Montgomery County schools does not have the approval of all the teachers, parents and students as proponents would like you to believe. There are many concerns and unanswered questions.

As a high school mathematics teacher, I have great concerns about students' not taking a math course for any one semester (really eight or nine months). The mathematics curriculum builds on the previous semester's class. If student miss a semester, we will spend much of the next semester reviewing for them, while others have to slow down and wait.
