WEBB, Guthrie Jr., 71, of Salem, died Friday, March 31, 1995, in a Salem nursing home. Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Saunders Webb. Surviving are three sons, Larry Lee Webb, Roanoke, David Montgomery Webb, Roanoke, and Mark Jeffrey Webb, Salem; two granddaughters, Jessica Marguerite Webb and Samantha Webb; two grandsons, Danny Ray Webb and Stacy Eugene Webb. Funeral services will be at the graveside, Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 2 p.m. Monday, April 3, 1995 with Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

ARRINGTON, William Ray, 66, of Bedford, died Saturday, April 1, 1995 in a Fayetteville, N.C. hospital. He was born in Bedford County July 28, 1928 a son of the late Leslie Ray Arrington and Lucy Vaughan Arrington. He was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church at Big Island and was a retied Master Sergeant in the U. S. Marines Corps with over 25 years service. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of A. Arrington, of St. Pauls, N.C.; a daughter, Margarett A. Arrington and his former wife Phyllis Ann Arrington both of Goodview; a brother Carl V. Arrington of Goode; two sisters, Rachel A. Hudson, of Big Island and Roberta A. Helms, of Goode; also several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, April 4, 1995 at 10 a.m. at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John C. Mitchell and American Legion Post #16 officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and suggests memorials be made to the sender's favorite charity. Arrangements by Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.

BERGER, Elizabeth Hodnett, 79, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, March 31, 1995. Survivors include her husband, Furlow Berger, Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, Dave M. and Dorothy Hodnett, Petersburg; two sisters, Mildred Horne, Norwood, N.C., Bertha L. Carter, Jersey City, N.J.; devoted niece, Norma Hodnett, Chatham; devoted friends, Alison, Manly, Richard and Carter Aylor, Ira and Martha Wilson, all of Roanoke; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. FREEMAN, Eugene Ward, 70, of Roanoke, after a courageous battle with cancer went to be with the Lord at his home in the arms of his wife and surrounded by his family on Friday, March 31, 1995. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene M. Freeman and his mother, Nora Byrd Freeman. HAIRSTON, James , 91, of Roanoke, died Friday, March 31, 1995. Survivors include devoted friends, Florence Snead and Herbert Snead, Roanoke, Frances Walker, Roanoke. HENDLEY, Sarah Y., 71, of Roanoke, died Friday, March 31, 1995. She was a retired Nurse at Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley and was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, William M. Hendley; mother; a sister; a son; a daughter; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one niece; one nephew all of Charlotte, N.C. Services will be at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, with Dr. Gregory L. Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. JEFFERSON, Rushia Mae Richardson, (``Kitty""), 87, of Vinton, passed away Friday, March 31, 1995. She was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church and the widow of William C. Jefferson. She was the daughter of the late Luke and Maggie Shepherd Richardson. Surviving is a godson and his wife, Ronald Laird and Ann Manlove of Roanoke; and several cousins. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, 1995, from the Vinton Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William Ross officiating. Burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. JENNINGS, Irene B., 96, of Christiansburg, died Friday, March 31, 1995 at the home of her daughter in Wilmington, N.C. Born in Natural Bridge on November 26, 1898, she was the daughter of the late Louise and James Browning. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years at S. G. Wimmer & Son and at the Music House. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle H. Jennings Sr.; a son, Kyle H. Jennings Jr., and a grandson, Roby Robertson. Surviving are two daughters, Marie J. Harman, Christiansburg, and Juanita J. Hall, Wilmington, N.C.; granddaughters, Viki Robertson, Bayse, Va., Gina Fletcher, Charlottesville, Melissa Swoope, Roanoke; grandsons, John Harman, Chesterfield, Ricky Hall, Shreveport, La.; five great-g randchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday from St. Paul United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Douglas Kanney, with interment in Sunset Cemetery. LAWSON, Arnold, (``Buck""), 84, of Salem, formerly of Christiansburg, died Saturday, April 1, 1995 in Camelot Hall Nursing Home, Salem. He was a retired employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was preceded in death by his wife, Kate Garnand Lawson. He is survived by his children, Verlon L. and Carl Leonard, Fredona L. Jones, all of Roanoke, Hersel L. and Joyce S. Lawson, Christiansburg, Jerry and Carolyn L. Lawson, Montvale, Gale and Ray Friddle, Danville and Dorita L. Dowdy, Salem; two sisters, Emily Roop, Christiansburg, Martha Davis, Pulaski; two brothers, Jack Lawson, Riverdale, Md., Sam Lawson of New Orleans; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. MARSHALL, Andrew John, 67, of Radford, passed away Friday, March 31, 1995, at Radford Community Hospital. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pearisburg, the Giles Lodge #106 A.F. & A.M., the Scotttish Rite Bodies and the Kazim Shrine Temple. Survivors include his wife, Pat Marshall; one son, Gregory Marshall, Radford; one daughter, Andrea Marshall, Christiansburg; one brother, Rev. Robert Marshall, Hiwassee; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Stewart, Maine, Mrs. Angnes Leech, Troutville, and Mrs. Christine McLewin, Asheville, N.C. MEADOWS, Daniel Kyle, 41, of 5th Street NW, Pulaski, died Friday, March 31, 1995 at his home. He was born in Pulaski on March 27, 1954 and was the son of the late Kyle Robert Madows and Etta Mae Roberts Meadows. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Surviving are his wife, Joan Meadows, Pulaski; daughter, Leslie Ann Ross, Roanoke; brother, Douglas Wayne Meadows, Pulaski. Funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denny Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Thronspring Cemetery, Pulaski County, with Pulaski VFW Post #1184 conducting the military graveside rites. MILLER, Vera T., 76, of Roanoke, died Thursday, March 30, 1995. She was retired from Lobel Cleaners. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Helen Thorne and Mrs. Ernest (Evelyn) Wilcox, both of Ashland, W.Va. MOORE, Susan N., 64, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 1, 1995 in a Roanoke hospital. She was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio and graduated from Hollins College in 1952. She was a social worker in Roanoke City and Nottoway County, Va. and Scioto County, Ohio. She retired in 1988 and afterwards did volunteer work with Youth Support Services, Inc. Surviving are her husband, Thomas C. Moore; son, Thomas A. Moore and wife, Camille, Columbia, S.C.; son, David E. Moore and wife, Carol, Norfolk, Va.; daughter, Sally M. Ely and husband, Philip, Goochland, Va.; daughter, Patricia M. Cornett and husband, Charles, Richmond, Va. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Connie Baer, San Diego, CA., and Mrs. Betty Heiss, Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and eight grandchildren. Burial will be private, with a memorial service at First Presbyterian La psley Chapel, 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, 1995, with the Rev. Robert D. Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

MUSTARD, Mellie Virginia Cassell, 79, of Tazewell, died Friday, March 31, 1995 at a Roanoke hospital. Born in Switchback, W.Va. She was a daughter of the late H. A. and Bertha Ross Cassell. She was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church in Tazewell and a past worthy M atron of the Order of Eastern Star, Princess Pocahontas Chapter #112. She was a graduate of Concord College, an elementary teacher and retired from Tazewell Oil Company. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barnes S. Mustard, one son, Barnes S. Mustard Jr., one sister, Mary Cassell, two brothers, H. A. Cassell Jr. and Glen Cassell. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Oral (Rebecca) Jones of Wytheville, Mrs. Lanny (Nancy) Sparks of Dublin, and Mrs. Bill (Arden Jane) Seay of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Mrs. Aubrey (Freda) Sadler of Virginia Beach, and Mrs. Tom (Phyllis) Rogers of Morristown, Tenn.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 3, 1995 at 11 a.m. at the Main Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Thomas Conley officiating. PENN, Mary Etta Mullins, 92, of Roanoke Co., died Saturday, April 1, 1995. She was the widow of William Lee Penn and was a member of the Melrose United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Quilters. She had taught school in Franklin County before her marriage. Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Mullins, Julia Penn Prillaman, both of Roanoke; also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 12 noon Monday, with the Rev. Richard L. McNutt officiating. Interment will be in the East Hill Cemetery. PRESLEY, Betty Jane Cline, 53, of Speedwell, died Saturday, April 1, 1995, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Marvin and Ina Caudill Cline. She is survived by her husband, Jack C. Presley, Speedwell; two daughters and son-in-law, Dianna Presley, Speedwell, Rita and Randy Crockett, Wytheville; one son, Danny Presley, Speedwell; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Barry Schwartz, Athens, Ga.; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Janell Cline, Enid, Okla. ROSE, Katie C., 97, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, March 30, 1995. She was formerly of Amherst. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Carrington J. and Peggie H. Rose, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Jerry R. Rose, Arlington, Carrington R. Rose, Roanoke, and Carolyn Rose Taylor, Christiansburg; one great-grandchild, Alexis D. SIMMS, Celeste, 74, of Salem, passed away Friday, March 31, 1995. She is survived by her sister, Mary S.
