TAKE NOTE

April is National Cancer Awareness Month, and hospitals throughout the New River Valley are offering screenings to assess your health. Both Radford Community Hospital and Montgomery Regional Hospital are offering mammograms. If you get one during April, you'll also get a free gift. Montgomery is offering a long-stem rose and Radford is giving away a Passion Gift Set by Elizabeth Arden.

Mammography is a safe and effective way of detecting breast cancer, a disease that is 90 percent curable if found in its earliest stages. Mammography, however, should be used in conjunction with monthly self exams.

To schedule a mammogram at Radford, call731-2720. Montgomery is offering mammograms, for $60, at two locations: in Christiansburg, at the Imaging Center (call 953-5131) and in Fairlawn, at the hospital's Regional Family Care Center (call 639-0427).
