So, while millions were watching UCLA and Arkansas play for the NCAA championship on Monday, Clemons bowled.
Did he ever.
Clemons, of Salem, rolled the third 300 game of his life while bowling for D.J. Inventory in the Men's Major Scratch League at Hilltop Lanes.
Clemons, who turned 32 on Saturday, bowled two 300 games two years ago, one of those at Hilltop.
``I guess I wasn't quite as nervous this time, but I was getting pretty nervous in the last few frames'' Clemons said. ``I saw in the paper the other day that there had been two other 300s bowled here and I figured it was my time to get one now. It must have been karma or something.''
Clemons' average at Hilltop rose to 207 on Monday. His previous best game there this year was a 274.
``I knew if I stayed consistent and threw the same ball I could get the 300,'' Clemons said. ``The lanes were not changing that much.''
Bowling with Clemons on Monday were David Henderlite, Bryan Keller and Tom Wilson.
Clemons still managed to watch some basketball Monday.
``I got done in time to see the finish,'' he said. ``I knew what was going on.''
Clemons' feat, and UCLA's victory, weren't the only things that had Hilltop buzzing Monday.
Richard Casey, who last week rolled a 300 game at Hilltop, led the Star City Amoco team to a scratch set of 2,714. The team had a third-set score of 994, following sets of 907 and 813. Casey rolled a 278 in the third game, Billy Stewart a 248, Buddy Stewart a 235 and Kendall White a 233.
The 994 is the top scratch team game this season at Hilltop and the 2,714 the high team set.
