CLARK, William Robert, (``Bill""), 72, of Rocky Mount, died Saturday, April 1, 1995. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday, Flora Funeral Chapel.

SUMNER, Flora Linkenhoker, 79, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, April 1, 1995, at Radford Community Hospital. The daughter of the late Myrtle Payne and George Adam Linkenhoker, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Linkenhoker and one sister, Ruby L. Maxey. Mrs. Sumner was a long time member of the Park United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Archie W. Sumner; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley G. and William G. McGee, Huntersville, N.C., Norma G. and Edward T. Lawson, Christiansburg, Doloris G. and James C. Demas, Southern Shores, N.C.; two sisters, Beatrice Matney, Christiansburg , Mable Freeman, Alexandria; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Archie H. and Phyllis M. Sumner; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Thelma S. and Jerry Cupp, all of Christiansburg; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Mark Christian and Rev. Raymond Kelley with burial in Sunset Cemetery. ATKINSON, Charles Berlin, 83, of Roanoke, died Sunday, April 2, 1995. He is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Opal Atkinson, Roanoke, Doris L. and John Eakin, Roanoke; brother, Herbert Atkinson, Roanoke; brother-in-law, Joseph West, Tampa, Fla.; one niece and four nephews and a devoted friend, Juanita Fisher and family. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens by Rev. Robert Sadler. Memorials may be made to the Roanoke City Rescue Squad. BOSTIC, Juanita Grace, 82, of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., died Monday, April 3, 1995, at her home following an extended illness. She was born April 21, 1912, at White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., a daughter of the late Lonnie George and Dottie Blevin Craft. She was preceded in death in 1979 by her husband, John E. Bostic. She was a member of the Community Tabernacle in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Survivors include one son, Marshall Edward Bostic of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; and two daughters, Lyndall Grace Gibson, Roanoke, and Barbara Virginia Fifc, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 5, 1995, at 11 a.m. at Shanklin Funeral Home Chapel, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., with The Rev. Carl Woodie and The Rev. Billy Price officiating. BRIGGS, Joseph Phillipps, Sr. (``Phil''), 81, of Roanoke, passed away suddenly Monday, April 3, 1995. Mr. Briggs was a long time member of West End United Methodist Church, a member and past President of the Raleigh Court Lions Club, a member and past President of the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club and was a 1945 graduate of Roanoke College. He was a retired Chief Engineer from WSLS-TV10 with 38 years service and was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Harris Briggs; his daughter, Elizabeth H. (Betsy) Briggs, Roanoke; his son and daughter-in-law, Joseph P., Jr. and Cheri Briggs, Pittsburgh, Pa. A private graveside service will be held in Sherwood Memorial Park, Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., with Dr. Bernard S. Via, Jr. officiating. A memorial service will be held at West End United Methodist Church Wednesday, 2 p.m., with Dr. Bernard S. Via, Jr. and the Rev. Kenneth Patrick officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to Roanoke Life Saving Crew or West End United Methodist Church in his memory. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

CURTIS, Teresa Waldis, 98, of Norfolk, died Sunday, April 2, 1995, at her residence. Mrs. Curtis was a native of Roanoke. She was the widow of Clinton J. Curtis and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Norfolk. Mrs. Curtis was a graduate of St. Vincent DePaul School of Nursing, class of 1918, and member of its Alumni. Survivors include a sister, Mary W. Callaghan of Claymont, Del.; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of the Ressurection will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 1995 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Fr. John J. Dorgan. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. FALLS, Verna E., 93, of Harrison City, Pa., died Friday, March 31, 1995, in Forbes Regional Health Center, Monroeville, Pa. She was born November 5, 1901, in Buena Vista, a daughter of the late Richard H. and Levenia Lawhorne Byers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie K. Falls, in 1960. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George Hilda Stankewich, Harrison City, Pa.; a granddaughter, Verna Lee Smith, Harrison City, Pa.; two great-granddaughters; several nieces and one nephew. Funeral services were held Monday, 11 a.m. at the James E. Lindsay Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street, Harrison City, Pa. Interment followed in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, Pa.

FERGUSON, Nelson McKenley, 54, of Salem died Monday, April 3, 1995 in a Bedford hospital. FRALIN, Belacer, (``Josh""), 71, of Galax, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 1, 1995. Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Fralin, Galax; two sisters, Claudine Fralin, and Gloria Fralin Williams; five nephews, Melvin Fralin, Fred Fralin, Rev. Ron Marsh, Rev. Artie Turner, Harding Turner; three nieces, Florene Allen, Victoria Minter, Rovella Fralin, all of Roanoke; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and friends. HAIRSTON, James, 91, of Roanoke, died Friday, March 31, 1995. Survivors include devoted friends, Florence Snead and Herbert Snead, Roanoke, Frances Walker, Roanoke. HALL, Dennis Howard, 91, of Stuart, died Sunday night, April 2, 1995, at the Patrick County Memorial Hospital. He was retired from the Virginia De partment of Highways after 35 years of service and he was a member and former Deacon of the Dobyn's Primitive Baptist Church. Born May 1,1903 in Patrick County to the late Robert Lee Hall and the late Sara Cruise Hall. He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Howard Hall Jr. and Johnny Clyde Hall; two brothers, Kenny Hall and Henry Hall; two sisters, Cora McCormick and Annie Williams. Surviving is his wife, Gladys Hall Hall of Stuart; four daughters, Mrs. Alex (Elva) Thomas, Mrs. Richard (Audrey) Hodges, Mrs. Jack (Annie Belle) Dalton, and Mrs. Blanco (Nancy) Midkiff all of Stuart; three sons, Joseph R. Hall of Collinsville, Garnett Hall, Roanoke, and Ralph Hall of Stuart; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Dennis Hall will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Moody's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Gerald Melton and Elder J.M. Vipperman. Burial will be in the Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart and other times at the home place. HALL, Lorriane Shank, 78, of Shawsville, died Saturday, April 1, 1995, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie A. Hall, her parents, Marion and Jennie Shank, two brothers and four sisters. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Warren L. and Sondra Dickerson of Biloxi, Mississippi; a stepson and his wife, Cecil and Connie Hall of Shawsville; a sister, Ernestine Forbes of Stuarts Draft; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hall was a member of the Piedmont Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she served as pianist for many years. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Richardson-Horne Funeral Chapel, Christiansburg, conducted by the Rev. William Monday, with burial in the Piedmont Cemetery. The family received friends Monday evening at the funeral home and will also receive friends there from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday morning. LITTLE, Ruth, (""Ayers""), 73, of Saltville, died Monday, April 3, 1995 in the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Va. Mrs. Little was a member of the Madam Russell United Methodist Church. She was a Homemaker and a lifelong resident of Saltville, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin G. Little and a grandson, Tony Sturgill. Surviving are two sons, Marvin G. (""Sonny"") Little Jr., of Kingsport, Tenn., Charles V. Little, of Saltville; four d aughters, Sue L. Sturgill, Judy L. Rhea, all of Marion, Jane M. Conner, Martha D. Little, of Bristol; sister, Lily A. Little, of Saltville; brother, Eugene Ayers, of Chilhowie; seven grandsons, Richard Sturgill, Todd Little, Scott Rhea, Chad Little, Ben Mitchell, Derek Rhea, and Seth Little; two granddaughters, Kitty S. Schleimer and Amy R. DeBord; one great-granddaughter, Wynn Schleimer. Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth (Ayers) Little will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 1995 in the Madam Russell United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott A. Robertson-Gouge and Rev. LUNSFORD, Thomas S. Jr., 76, of Roanoke, died Monday, April 3, 1995. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

MILES, Douglas Gilbert, 62, of Moneta, died Saturday, April 1, 1995, at the Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center of Cancer. He served as a Naval Reservist and was on active duty from 1952 to 1953. He was employed by the Department of Defense from 1953 until January 1, 1988, when he retired with 35 years service as a Senior Admin istrative Officer. During that time he served a year from 1969 to 1970 in Vietnam. He was ordained as a Deacon at age 21 and has served as an active layman and choir member in numerous Baptist churches throughout his entire life. Surviving are his wife, Janis Lynn Montgomery Miles; sons, Stephen Douglas Miles, Chandler, Arizona, Mark Donald Miles, Crofton, Md.; five grandchildren; mother, Minnie Belle Parker Miles; sisters, Janet Fry and Kathryn McMullin, all of Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be conducted from Beaverdam Baptist Church, 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 1995 with the Rev. Dennis Moore, Dr. Bruce Salmon and Dr. Dan Ivins officiating. Mr. Miles will then be taken to the Beall-Evans Funeral Home, Bowie, Md., where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. A memorial service will be conducted from the Village Baptist Church, Bowie, at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, 1995, with interment at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Maryland National Memorial Park, Laurel, Md. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, April 4, 1995. The family suggests memorials be made to the Beaverdam Baptist Church, Vinton or the American Cancer Society.

PAUL, John Gray Jr., 74, of 223 Campbell St., Harrisonburg, died Saturday, April 1, 1995, at his home. He was born April 19, 1920, in Rockford, Ill., and was the son of the late John Paul and Elizabeth Huntington Gibb Paul. He moved to Harrisonburg, May of 1920, and to Roanoke in 1927, where he graduated from Jefferson High School, Class of 1937, and from Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1941. Two weeks later, he entered the U.S. Army, where he attained rank of Major in a tank destroyer battalion in Europe and served until June of 1946. ``Wasted a year at Georgetown University from September, 1946 to June, 1947."" Beginning in the fall of 1947, he operated Shenandoah Community Workers in Shenandoah County until September, 1966. He entered law school at Washington & Lee University, where he graduated June, 1969, and returned to Harrisonburg, where he entered the practice of law. He is survived by a half sister, Joanna Paul Elder of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by a brother, Huntington Peyton Paul, who was killed in action in the Normandy Invasion. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 1995, at Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg by the Rev. Martin Bagay. Mr. Paul requested there be no flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Mercy House or a charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Paul's body will be cremated at the Kyger & Trobaugh Funeral Home and Crematory in Harrisonburg.

PHILLIPS, Cecil Mont, 57, of Floyd, passed away Monday, April 3, 1995. He was a Truck Driver for Jordan Oil Company of Radford. Survivors include his wife, Ailleene Phillips, Floyd; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Stanley Viars, Pulaski; one granddaughter, Christie Viars, Pulaski; one grandson, Travis Viars, Pulaski; one stepson and wife, Ricky and Serna Wimmer, Copper Hill; one brother, Rex Phillips, Greenville; five sisters, Alma Ratliff, Floyd; Mae Spicer, Hillsville, Ila Thomas, Roanoke, Lucille Weeks, Staunton, Violetta Quesenberry, Dugspur. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with the Rev. S.G. Bolt officiating. Burial will be in the Vest Cemetery. SHAFFER, Pauline Sparks, 76, of Salem, died Sunday, April 2, 1995. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She retired from Singer Furniture Company. Mrs. Shaffer was the widow of Joseph Frank Shaffer and is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Linwood L. (Pete) Sr. and Judy Shaffer, Roanoke; a sister, Irene Adcock, Roanoke; a niece, Francis Blankenship; a nephew, George Ashwell, both of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Linny Shaffer, Eric Shaffer, Rehnee Shaffer, all of Salem; two stepgrandchildren, Chad Lovell and Tammie Strickland, both of Roanoke; two great-grandchildren.
