The 1995 NRV Senior Olympics.
The athletic competition for older athletes is April 17-19.
On April 17, events include golf at the Blacksburg Municipal Course (9 a.m.) and bowling at Triangle Lanes in Christiansburg (2 p.m.).
On April 18, events include putting skills at Cox's Putt-a-Round in Blacksburg (9 a.m.) and athletic and team competition at the Blacksburg Community Center (1 p.m.).
And on April 19, the field events are at the Blacksburg Community Center and Municipal Park (9 a.m.).
The last training day for the Senior Olympics is April 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Blacksburg Community Center and Municipal Park.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE: There are still a few more hikes left in the Winter/Spring outings sponsored by the Blacksburg YMCA.
Hikers meet at the YMCA parking lot, 403 Washington St., and return there about 5 p.m. Water, a jacket, sturdy shoes and snacks for longer hikes are all recommended. Hikers car pool to sites and should be prepared to drive or bring gas money. For information, call the YMCA at 231-6860.
Saturday: Rock Castle Gorge. Meet at 9 a.m. for this 11-mile steep trail from the gorge to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Bring lunch for this hike. Hike leaders are BILL and LINDA HOHENBOKEN (552-2817).
April 16 (Easter Sunday): Price's Mountain. Meet at 1:30 p.m. for a moderate hike up and down the hill and through a stream on Virginia Tech forest property. The hike leader is SU CLAUSON-WICKER (552-6331).
April 22: Mount Rogers. Meet at 8:30 p.m. for the 21/2-hour drive to Grayson Highlands State Park and then a hike to the highest point in Virginia. Bring lunch for this hike. Hike leaders are again the Hohenbokens (552-2817).
April 30: Falls Ridge. Meet at 1:30 p.m. for this trek with a naturalist on this Nature Conservancy land. See a travertine falls and learn of the native flora. The hike leader is DOTTIE ABASHIAN (951-1990).
NET INTEREST:There is a free tennis clinic for boys and girls ages 6-12 on Saturday morning at the Radford Recreation Department courts.
There will be two sessions: beginners from 10 to 11 a.m. and advanced players from 11 a.m. to noon.
The clinic will be given by DENNI BUENO, assistant coach of the men's tennis team at Radford University.
Though there is no cost, registration is required. It can be made by calling the recreation department at 731-3633.
Tennis lessons can be taken just about anywhere in Montgomery County. The parks and recreation department is sponsoring classes at all four county high schools: Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Shawsville and Auburn (in Riner).
Classes begin the week of April 24 and include six one-hour sessions. There will be two sets of classes: Monday-Wednesday and Tuesday-Thursday.
Youth classes will be at 6 p.m. and cost $15. Adult classes will be at 7 p.m. and cost $20.
Participants are expected to bring a racket and a can of balls to class.
Registration ends April 21.

Participants are expected to bring golf clubs to class but may use clubs from the range, which will purchase range balls at a discount for the class.

SOFTBALL SIGN-UPS: Montgomery County, Blacksburg and Christiansburg are all holding registration for softball programs.
In Montgomery County, men's and women's teams have until April 14 to register. The minimum age is 16 (as of May 1). The cost is $220 per team.
Girls' softball, cosponsored with Blacksburg and Christiansburg, is open to girls ages 9-18. It will have teams at Auburn High, Shawsville Elementary, Belview Elementary and Price's Fork Elementary. The cost is $15. Registration ends May 5.
Finally, Friday is the last day to register teams for the modified fast-pitch leagues for men and women. The cost is $220 per team.

In Christiansburg, registration ends April 14 for its five adult softball leagues: men's open, women's open, men's church, women's church and adult co-ed. The cost is $200 per team plus $10 for each non-resident on the roster.

In Blacksburg, girls' softball registration goes on through April 28. There will be leagues for girls 9-12 and 13-18. Play begins in June. The cost is $7.
But Friday is the last day for sign-ups in the eight adult leagues. The cost is $235 per team in the Industrial-Organizational League and $175 per team in the Men's B and C, Women's Open, Church A, B and C, and Co-ed leagues. All leagues have a $20 forfeit fee.

HARDBALL HANKERINGS: Registration for adult baseball in Christiansburg ends April 14. The minimum age is 18. The cost is $250 per team, plus $10 per non-resident. For information, call the recreation department at 382-2349.
Registration is already under way for Pony League (ages 13-14) and Dixie Youth (ages 15-16) baseball in Blacksburg. The cost is $10 for Pony League and $20 for Dixie Youth.
Sign-ups for T-Ball (ages 7-8) and Sandlot Baseball (ages 9-12) begin April 17. The cost is $7 for T-Ball and $12 for Sandlot Baseball.

ROUNDBALL ROUNDUP: After two weeks of play, only the Razorbacks (4-0, 5-0) and the Gophers (3-0, 3-0) remain unbeaten in the eight-team Pulaski Junior Boys League.
The biggest noise, though, was made by the Thunder. It set a league record for points when it beat the Tar Heels 95-59. Five players scored in double figures for the Thunder, led by CHRIS WRIGHT with 23.
JABBAR PATTERSON of the Hoyas leads the league in scoring at 31.3 points per game. He had a league-high 46 points in a 77-71 loss to the Thunder.
