HIRSHHORN GIVES ART COLLECTION TO MUSEUM

Art collector and patron Olga Hirshhorn has donated her collection of modern paintings, sculpture and works on paper to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.'s oldest art museum.

Included in the collection are 700 works by more than 200 19th- and 20-century European and American painters and sculptors, including John Singer Sargent, Georgia O'Keeffe, Man Ray, Alberto Giacometti, Louise Nevelson, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso and Willem de Kooning.

In addition, there are approximately 1,000 art objects including animalier and folk arts, posters, photographs and graphics.

The gift will come to the museum as a bequest and will be on permanent loan during Hirshhorn's lifetime.

A ``preview'' exhibit is being planned for the summer.
